In 2020, ten of our students worked with teacher, Lolohea Anne Vaka, and teacher-author, David Riley, to write a book describing what they love about growing up in South Auckland. The children were also mentored by Tongan-Fijian journalist, Indira Stewart, and Samoan photographer, Raymond Sagapolutele. "Your story is so important," Indira told the children. "Someone needs to hear your story so don't look down on yourself, and ALWAYS back your story." You can listen to the children reading their stories below, thanks to the team at Radio New Zealand.
